Don Wilson Music Company was founded in 1956 by Don Wilson, a musician and repairman for the Army during World War II. He opened his first shop on Mainstreet in Lexington, Kentucky.

In the years that followed, the store out grew the Mainstreet location, and was moved to its current location on Southland Drive in Lexington. In 2002, a second store was opened in Louisville, serving the Louisville Metro Area, the surrounding counties, and southern Indiana.

Over the past 50 years, Don Wilson Music has gained a reputation as Central Kentucky's # 1 supplier of band instruments. Focusing on music education, the company specializes in instrument rental programs for beginning band and orchestra students, and provides weekly visits and service to hundreds of schools throughout the state.

With a full-service repair shop staffed by NAPBIRT certified technicians in each store, a full compliment of reputable private lesson instructors, and a friendly, professional, and knowledgable sales staff, Don Wilson Music Company has become a mainstay of Kentucky musicians for over half a century.
