Selmer Alto-
"Balanced
Action" 1937
model. This horn has not been overhauled and is still in great condition! It's
over 70 years old and it still sings! A precursor to the legendary Mark VI, the
Balanced Action horn was the choice of fine sax connoiseurs. BALANCED
ACTION EXPLAINED Notice
the simplified low-tone key leverages. Now the Bb, B, C# and G# work straight
up and down, just as they do on a clarinet. The usual saxophone has more than
15 leverages -- "Balanced-Action" eliminates these differences. Now
you can play just as fast in the extreme lower register as you can in any other
part of the scale. Study the [pictures on saxpics' website]; note the extreme
simplicity of the new mechanism. Fewer parts are used; action is more direct.
Low tones speak more surely with "Balanced Action" because the
shorter direct leverages make pads cover quickly and seal perfectly. | Call

Vintage Selmer Paris Alto-Super Series "Cigar
Cutter." Made in 1932, this beauty was completely overhauled in Elkhart,
Indiana by Selmer plant workers. This 75 year old horn is in like-new condition.
The engraving on this saxaphone is astounding! Check
out these comments from former Selmer employee Ralph Morgan: "The
nickname, 'CIGAR CUTTER' was hung on the first 2000 or so SUPER altos made, because
the flat plate in the octave mechanism had a hole in the middle of it, making
it look like the cigar clippers many men carried. The French were incensed by
this 'afront ' to their beautiful saxophone, and so changed back to a more conventional
configuration." | SOLD |
